it s a small world composer Overview
inothernews: Did someone say classical music is boring? Hmmm? Yeah, didn’t think so. Now gimme that coda. - Menacing Classical Music Bully goodbetterbestbested: Henryk Górecki - Symphony No. 3, Op. 36 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs): Movement 2.Just hear me out before you completely discount this track because ‘classical music is shit and boring’. Górecki’s third symphony is absolutely beautiful and tear inducing. The libretto is in Polish, and predominately focuses on the theme of separation through war. In the second movement, the libretto is comprised of a message scratched on the wall of a Gestapo cell by an 18 year old Polish girl during World War II. It reads, “Mother, please do not cry. Queen of Heaven, virgin most pure, protect me always”. One recording of the symphony has sold over 1 million copies, and reached #6 on the mainstream UK album charts; a somewhat irregular feat of a symphonic recording by a 20th-century composer. Anyway, you should listen to it, if you feel so inclined.I also realise that to many this symphony is what one pulls out, should they wish to be considered a classical music afficianado. Many’s mother should’ve swallowed that load. Better not say that to me. Huff will make his pimp hand strong against such malfeasance. And seriously — the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs is one of the most exquisitely-rendered musical expressions of melancholy ever written. If you read the texts that go with the piece and don’t have an emotional response, even a small one, you are a pod person.
